What an In-Home Newborn Session Looks Like With Me

Your little one has finally arrived and you’re home from the hospital adjusting to your new life as a family. These days are all together blissful, tiring, long, magical, exhausting and painful. For some these days will be exactly what you’ve longed for, and for others an emotional roller coaster but no matter your circumstance, I promise you, you won’t regret bottling all of that up and capturing it for you to look back on.

Hopefully you’re a person after my own heart, organised to a tee and you’ve already booked your newborn session ahead of time. If that’s you, then we’ve already likely pencilled in a loose date for your newborn session with the ability to move it if bub arrives early, late or you’re just having a tricky recovery and need some more time. Once bub has arrived reach out and we’ll finalise a date to capture your little one.

If you’re in the other camp, bub’s arrived and a newborn session hasn’t crossed your mind until now.. it may not be too late. I try my best to hold space for one last minute newborn session each month as I hate the thought of someone missing out on capturing their little one. Reach out and I’ll try my best to move mountains to fit you in!

Okay, so you’re booked in. Ahead of our session, I will send you through a preparation email/guide with a questionnaire, notes on how to prepare, what to expect as well as any client wardrobe requests to help alleviate any unknowns.

If it’s your first baby, it’s common to feel overwhelmed that bub will be restless/irritable the whole session but please let me assure you, we can handle anything that comes our way together. I’m not naive to the fact that our session is on bub’s time, so whatever happens I promise you it won’t be the first time I’ve seen it and it won’t be the last. My priority is helping you to feel at ease, and assisting with settling your precious little one, after all that’s my job and a big part of what I do.

Our session will run anywhere from 2.5-3hrs which may seem like a lot, but remember your bub rules the show and often they may need a top up feed, re-settling, etc. this allows us plenty of time and takes the pressure off.

If bub isn’t your first and you have other kids, I will make it my priority to get them onside, engaged and laughing during our session. I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve to help so please don’t worry about them acting up. Remember, we’re doing an in-home session so that it’s comfortable for you and for them. We want to hold space for them to be exactly who they are and capture their personalities too.

During our session, I will begin with family shots and individual photos with both parents with bub, before concluding the session with lots of beautiful photos of bub on their own, capturing their little details. If you would like to capture breastfeeding images I will tend to do this at the end of the session once we’ve unwrapped bub, captured all of their beautiful details and they’re starting to wake ready for another feed.

If you’re reading this pregnant and haven’t yet booked your newborn session, this is your sign, reach out here. If you have, then I can’t wait to capture you and yours very soon.
